Backblaze Announces New Data Center

Sacramento Data Center Wall of Pods

One of the things I like about Backblaze is there openness. They share their design for their storage pods, they share how they farm hard drives to fill those storage pods, and they share where they store the data. Previously Backblaze only had one data center, in Oakland, now they also have a new data center in Sacramento California as well.

This is good news for Backblaze to expand to Sacramento since the Oakland data center in in the middle of an earthquake zone it is a little disconcerting to think your backup could possible just disappear in some massive earthquake. Sacramento on the other had, as the Backblaze blog points out is outside of that zone.

The data center is not exactly new anymore either but this is the first official announcement I have heard of it. Looks like it has been accepting data since February 2013, so a year ago already. They plan to store 500 Petabytes of data at this new data center, and if you are looking for a job as a data center technician in the Sacramento area keep your eyes open for Backblaze to hire someone to help take care of all those drives.
