Hurricane Sandy Restores

Hurricane Sandy is estimated to have caused over $50 billion dollars in damages but aside from the large scale damage there was also the smaller scale loses of of people losing all of their computer files. For those that had their homes and offices destroyed and their lives turned upside down from the hurricane if they had Backblaze or Mozy as their backup software they can sigh a little sigh of relief. Both Backblaze and Mozy offer restores either by DVD or a USB hard drive and for a limited time are offering either a significant discount or free restores.

Backblaze has setup a dedicated email address for those customers who lost data in Hurricane Sandy and need a hand in recovering their data. Backblaze customers can email [email protected] for more help. Backblaze customers can also download their data for free as always but if they are in the FEMA Disaster Declared Area (affected areas in Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey) and you need your data sent to you on a USB Hard Drive or USB Flash Drive Backblaze will give you a 50% discount on these services through the end of November. For customers to take advantage of this Backblaze restore discount they will need to place their restore order and email [email protected] to receive the 50% restore discount.

Mozy is offering free DVD restores to customers that lost data due to Hurricane Sandy. This free restore service is available for Mozy customers in both the United States and Canada for restores up to 100GB in size. You have until December 31st to take advantage of this free restore offer from Mozy. Moze does reserve the right to decide whether applicants meet the requirements for this free offer so you will want to contact them.

Nice to hear about companies offering to help people impacted by Hurricane Sandy instead of the stories like that of Uber that took advantage of the situation and jacked up their rates. While Uber did eventually lower rates, it is nice to see the online backup companies are more compassionate and offering to help people recover first instead of charging double.
