If you are a Ubuntu One user you have probably heard by now that is is closing down all files services effective June 1, 2014 with data being deleted by July 31, 2014. If you are still looking for an alternative to Ubuntu One here are some options to consider.

  • Google Drive – With Google recent price drop on Google Drive storage it is a great deal. The only problem is Google has still not released a Linux client for Google Drive. Thankfully you can overcome that problem with InSync. InSync offers desktop clients for Windows, Mac and Linux and you can easily sync your Google Drive to your Linux desktop.
  • Dropbox – Odds are if you use Ubuntu One you already know about Dropbox and you know how well it works. Still works well on Linux and is a great alternative.
  • Copy.com – From Barracuda Networks has been making a lot of fans and they also run on Linux. Free accounts start with 15GB and they have an interesting sharing policy called fair storage where the size of a shared folder is spread out across all the users of the share.
  • SpiderOak – SpiderOak offers some solid cloud storage. It might not be as convenient as Ubuntu One but the Hive folder has made the service more like Dropbox and others.
  • OwnCloud – If you want to not rely on another party for your storage you can always create your own with OwnCloud.

If you already have a lot of data on Ubuntu One and do not want to download it all and upload it to a new service you also might want to look at Mover.io.
