Why the name change you are wondering? Well there are lots of reasons for the name change.
- Many services are not just online backup services any longer and have shifted to offering backup and some type of storage or syncing ability. Even Backblaze with the launch of their new mobile app is shifting to offering cloud storage as well as backup. I thought it was a good time to reflect some of this change in the name of the website.
- Over time the focus of Online Backup Deals has shifted away from being just about promos and specials from backup services and posting about news and information centered on cloud storage and backup. It was time the name reflected that focus. I’ll still post the good deals but that is not what the site has been about for a while.
- I have been writing more about cloud storage companies and not just backup since January. There is a difference between cloud storage and cloud backup but the differences are becoming more blurred. Bitcasa is an excellent example. They are a cloud based storage service but they are also a form of backup. Things have been changing and the lines between what is cloud storage and what is cloud backup are becoming more the same.
Things will not change to much around here. I will still be covering the cloud storage and backup industry and offering the latest news, reviews and promos for you.
