One of the consistent critizisms I have of Dropbox is the pricing plans they simply were to expensive for the amount of space you got. Considering there are less expensive alternatives out there like SugarSync, Google Drive and SpiderOak paying for Dropbox storage seemed like a bad idea. Well today Dropbox has announced new storage plans on their blog and they have improved the situation.
The new plans should be available tonight on the pricing page but here is the scoop. The new plans will be doubling your storage space but at the same cost. The new plans will be 100GB for $9.99/month or $99.00/year and 200GB $19.99/month or $199.00/year.
If you are thinking of purchasing Dropbox storage you should wait until the new plans go into effect tonight although the all existing subscribers will be upgraded to the new plans when they are made available.

Dropbox price changes certainly help their storage compete with the others and perhaps will not be such a barrier for people to purchase a larger plan since the alternatives are not much cheaper. Although there are discounts available to make some of the alternatives better. SugarSync has a 15% off discount if you click through from here and Mozy has a discount code (MPC15) to save 15% as well if you are purchasing from them. It will be interesting to see if some of the Dropbox competitors will beat the new Dropbox pricing.
