ElephantDrive – New Look, Features and Plans!

It has been quite a while since I have talked about ElephantDrive, in fact the last post I have about them is dated August 10, 2009! While I might not have been posting much about them they have been busy lately. They have a new look for their website, and more importantly they have made some changes to their backup plans.

First lets take a look at their new subscription plans. They are now offering a free 2GB account along with a referral plan that new users are automatically enrolled into so they can refer friends and family to earn more free space.

Personal backup plans start at 100GB for $9.95/month. Yearly subscriptions can save on the monthly price. Here is a breakdown of all of their plans. All come with free trials

Personal 100 100 GB of storage $9.95/month
Personal 250 250 GB of storage $19.95/month
Personal 500 500 GB of storage $39.95/month
Personal 750 750 GB of storage $59.95/month
Personal 1TB 1,000 GB of storage $85.95/month
Personal 2TB 2,000 GB of storage $169.95/month

ElephantDrive features now include support for Windows and Mac (I think they were only Windows when I last looked), an Android app for easy access to your backed up files, file synchronization, sharing and is one of the few services that support network attached storage devices.

Last but not least ElephantDrive has a new look on their website. Nice to see a more modern look that does not look like it came straight out of the early 2000’s!

I will be taking a fresh look at ElephantDrive in the near future and updating their review. With the addition of file sync and the new beta Android app they are certainly moving into the same area as Mozy since they released Stash. It is also moving ElephantDrive into more competition with services like Dropbox, SugarSync and SpiderOak but with the support for NAS devices those with a Drobo or other NAS device might want to take a closer look at ElephantDrive.
