MEGA Desktop and Mobile Apps Coming Soon

MEGAIt has been a week since MEGA launched and the reviews for MEGA are starting to come out. Many of them make similar points to my MEGA review, it is ok but it really is not as good as competitors like Dropbox, SugarSync and SpiderOak. I would go as far as saying it is not as good as the majority of the cloud storage services available.

One of the common themes is that uploading to MEGA through the browser is cumbersome and not as easy as having a desktop app that automatically does this for you. People like the ability to just copy files to a folder on their desktop and just having those files available in the cloud and on their other computers. Who wants to constantly visit MEGA to upload and download files.

It looks like Kim Dotcom has perhaps been listening to some of this criticism. One of his recent tweets stated that desktop and mobile apps are coming soon.

While desktop and mobile apps will certainly improve MEGA, I would also suggest to him that he have a good hard look and read through this blog post by SpiderOak. SpiderOak has a zero-knowledge policy since day one and have a great understanding of how to run a private online backup and storage service.

It will be interesting to keep an eye on MEGA and see if the service improves to compete with the better services available and to see if Kim Dotcom can stay out of the gun sights of the MPAA and RIAA.
