The JDI Backup Family – MyPCBackup, JustCloud, ZipCloud and Backup Genie

I was looking through the statistics here for Cloud Storage Buzz and noticed a lot of people are landing here on the site looking for the answer to one similar question, are the online backup companies MyPCBackup, JustCloud, ZipCloud and Backup Genie the same. The short answer is YES. MyPCBackup, JustCloud, ZipCloud and Backup Genie are the same and are all different brands operated by JDI Backup. JDI Backup is actually part of Just Develop It a company located in the UK. They have their main offices at Unit 6, Fulcrum 2, Solent Way, Whiteley, Hampshire, United Kingdom, PO15 7FN

JDI Backup and their brands are just a small part of the websites Just Develop It has created. They also run sites like:

JustHost – a web hosting website.
Intellichat – an automated smart agent for websites.
Vintage Pig – a promotional products website.
Grab a Laptop – a website selling refurbished laptop.
Design Fusions – a website design and development website.
Turbo Your PC – a website selling a system utility that allows PC users to increase their system speed, eliminate desktop clutter and reduce error messages.

That being said the online backup brands of MyPCBackup, JustCloud, ZipCloud and Backup Genie are not all identical. They do have some differences but the software is all created and maintained by the same company so even though there are differences in plans and features the software is all fundamentally the same.

You will notice though that the terms and conditions for all four brands are almost identical. You can see them here, here, here and here. It is their terms of service that is of most concern besides what seems to be buggy software. Particularly the terms in section 14. the “Termination and Fair Use Policy” and their Early Termination Fee that I mentions in the Online Backup Refund policies post recently.

Now that you know that MyPCBackup, JustCloud, ZipCloud and Backup Genie are the same you might want to know if you can trust them to safe guard your files, photos and videos of your kids, your music collection and all the other priceless files and information on your computer. Cloud Storage Buzz does not recommend any of these companies for your online backup needs. While they have made improvements since they started it is probably best to look elsewhere.

I may have uninstalled the JDI that appeared in my computer. It took some doing but it appears to be gone…I hope. JDI came in at the same time that I clicked on to install Slimware Util. Inc. which has VeriSign Class 3 Code Signature 2010 Ca. The only reason I allowed VeriSign to install is that it appeared on a Microsoft Page that looked legit. It had Microsoft written all over it as a certificate and a promise of authenticity,but I honestly don’t know now if it is. That page may have been a scam.If,this Slimware is not okay, I need to uninstall it. I tried and so far I get to a dialogue box that asks me if I want to allow it to make changes to my hard drive. That put a halt on my uninstalling it. This is on hold until I find out what is going on. I checked the certificate that now appears for VeriSign and there is no, no mention of microsoft anywhere. Help!

Their pop up ad has been on my screen for a couple of weeks and I can’t get rid of it. Are you telling me they have installed it on my computer without my ever clicking on it? Anyhow, does anyone know how to get rid of the pop-up ad–it is there constantly and X doesn’t do anything except take it off for a couple of minutes. Anyone with the answer. It is driving me nuts!!!

  I have not seen this version of JDI Backup, but it does appear that they have started acting more like malware to get installed on more people’s computers.

I don’t know why I should trust a service that installs obnoxious adware on my computer without my consent, that keeps poping up notifications to back up my files to their website, as well as ads for other services that I don’t want. And, oh yes, how to get rid of this crap? Nearly impossible. No way I will ever use their “service”, run as fast as you can!

I just found the problem on my comp yesterday, today searching for the suggestion here and as Bev says: I do uninstall it by going to control panel –> uninstall program –> my pc back up–> uninstall it….. already 30 minute over, still no pop up, hope it works.

  Why do you think so? I’d bet it has re-installed itself a few hundred times since you wrote. If not, please share your secret for PERMANENTLY uninstalling.

In my opinion these people are lowlife criminals. I have no idea how they infected my computer with their irritating pop ups making it next to impossible to delete the folder. This popup initiates every 20 minutes or so and will crash a running program. They have no right to steal my time and money to restore my machine to its former good health. Now your job is to find out how they are inflicting their scams on us. Good luck with that !!!

In my PC there is a backup program from JDI Backup.
I don’t need that program.

That’s why I have some questions:

Q1. How did it was installed if I never asked and neither give any kind of permission?

Q2. How can I uninstall this program?

  I really cannot give you much information. I have started to hear that JDI Backup apps are starting to get installed by some pretty typical malware methods, but have not personally seen it. As for removing it I guess it depends how much they wanted to make it difficult to remove. If you can’t remove it using the usual methods then you might even have to try to delete the folder for the application, but no promises. Good luck.

JDI company is spam and all the things that sound close to it: scum, slime, scam…it’s all intrusive crap I never invited onto my computer. Think I LIKE to see your crummy pop-up advertisements, much less, a lot less, LISTEN to an audio file advertisement spamming me in my own home on my own computer? How could you possibly think I am so much of a mindless idiot that I would sign up and PAY for your high-pressure spam? YOU are the idiots that bought the advice of idiot consultants who think people are stupid and buy anything with no thought. People are NOT stupid and I hope you go broke soon so I won’t see any more of your low-class junk.

Great detective work! I love the map.

They also use the same customer testimonials on each of their backup websites (they don’t even change the names – check it out if you don’t believe me). All fake most likely.

  Could also be a reseller. Looks like JDI Backup is going the same route as Livedrive and offering a reseller option. The whois for Novatech Cloud does not look like a JDI company, but I could be wrong. Not to mention JDI tends to pretty much copy the website design and the Novatech Cloud website actually looks different. Plus they have page showing the prices, something JustCloud etc tend not to do.

    Both are from UK, but they have different addresses on their privacy policy.
