MyPCBackup, Just Cloud, Zip Cloud and Backup Genie

Why some companies do what they do never ceases to amaze me. The online backup space is pretty crowded as it is but not enough for JDI Backup apparently. They recently just launched another brand along side their already existing brands of MyPCBackup, Just Cloud and Zip Cloud called Backup Genie. I will give them this much, it is a good name, to good maybe.

Perhaps JDI Backup did not know that there is already a backup company called Genie9 that offers a software product called, Genie Backup. Sounds pretty similar and I am sure Genie9 will probably not like the confusion they might get with Backup Genie. I am no lawyer but makes you wonder if they checked around before launching this latest website.

Beside the fact that Backup Genie sounds a lot like the software from Genie9 I do have to wonder what JDI Backup is thinking. They have fours brands all offering essentially the same service, all of them suffering from the same problems. I recently did install MyPCBackup again to see if it got any better and did the following video of the install and pointed out some of the problems with MyPCBackup, all of those problems have been carried over to the other brands.

From what I can tell this is just a way for JDI Backup to get more brands into more review websites and take more of the top 10 spots on those websites. Would not surprise me if those sites all start to list Backup Genie in the top 5 as well. That way JDI Backup will have 4 of the top 5 spots on all of those other review websites.

I will be honest, if you see a review website that is placing any of the JDI Backup brands in the top 10, they are doing it for one reason only, a high affiliate payout. If you want some honest opinions about these services here are some links besides mine that you can read.

I am passionate about helping you backup your computer and keeping your files safe, unfortunately not all the companies that offer online backup feel that way and I want you to understand that there are better companies out there that are passionate about keeping your data safe. Perhaps JDI Backup will start to understand that backing up peoples files is backing up peoples memories and instead of making it more confusing for people by polluting the online backup space with more brands they could focus on actually making a better service, one that will actually do the promises they make on their website.

All of the CNET reviews are correct, JustCloud IS A SCAM! STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY.

This company constantly switches services, never adding or enhancing service but only taking away and then requiring more payments for features that were included when I purchased the subscription. I paid for two years in advance, a month later I was suddenly and without warning cutoff from backing up from an external drive. They wanted another $90 per year to “add back” that feature. Since I paid in advance, this was a clear bait and switch breach of contract. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY.

    Thier customer service is terrible.

AVOID ANYTHING BY JDI BACKUP. They run 4 websites, JustCloud, ZipCloud, myPCBackup, and some new Genie backup site.

I’m glad to see I’m not the only person that feels duped by this company. I also went ahead and posted my issues with them on RipOffReport.com: http://www.ripoffreport.com/just-cloud/internet-services/internet-internet-33d51.htm

Hopefully, people will see this thread and keep them from signing up. I’m personally thinking about switching to CrashPlan but am still doing my research to make sure I don’t get burned again.

CrashPlan is a good service and price wise they are very competitive. The Family plan is great if you have multiple computers to backup.

*** WARNING *** These guys are a SCAM. I did research them before I contracted for their back up services and they seemed legitimate. Well, take a look at the CNET Reviews now. These guys SUCK. Run away ~ go to another provider. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY “Just Cloud”. I purchased their services 9/3/2012 and bought a couple of upgrades. They set up my account up as starting 3/9/2012. I was billed for a renewal 1 week after I started with them. I tried to cancel their service then. I received an email and I figured they would honor my wishes. Nope. I noticed about a week ago I still hadn’t gotten a refund. I contacted them again about the “typo” on the account setup. I will be happy to provide copies of the junk emails I’ve gotten since then from this organization, but suffice to say ~ I was told today that “I am not eligible for a refund.” Sooooooooooooo ~ I’m going to get $87 worth of amusement ripping this company apart in every review I can find.

Same happened to me. :( Fraud here.. Justcloud is a total rip-off. How can we fight against this? Is there a common law suit possible? There are so many web sites reporting about this company. I should have checked them out beforehand..

You can get a full refund, it just takes persistence. I had to file a dispute with my credit card company and with PayPal, and finally got a full refund, including the $15 “cancellation fee”, about 3 months after I had signed up. Then a year later, they tried to slip a renewal through PayPal. Again I filed a dispute with the credit card and with PayPal, got a refund, then blocked them on PayPal. Be sure to uninstall the software from your computer and delete any leftover files (which is most of them).

Don’t use justcloud! I have used it for a few months now. And while it appears to be backing up my files correctly, l just noticed that it is not replacing an edited file with the most current version. So if you edit your favorite word doc (for example) and save it – it will not be backed up next time; only an old version will be there.

After seeing all the fake review sites for Just Cloud and Zip Cloud, I would not recommend them to anyone.
They also have another 2 sites I hear.
    DO NOT USE.

    1. John Tucker Avatar

Ya there are several review sites out there that list them as number one. I even saw one a little while ago that listed MyPCBackup, Just Cloud and Zip Cloud as tied for number one. I just hope those of us that write honest reviews float to the top.

OK – after a couple of more attempts and further interruptions I was finally able to see the entire movie. Thanks for the info provided! I was close to signing up but then thought I might want to search for user reports first and that drove me FAR away from signing up! Your movie was just the last nail!

    1. John Tucker Avatar

Must be some kind of problem with YouTube when you were trying. You will do better with another service there are just to many problems with MyPCBackup and the other brands.

I guess, your movie must have turned someone really off. It first starts up and after like 15 seconds I keep getting “This video is temporarily unavailable”. Are we starting to see some YouTube mafia here?

I just signed up for JustCloud and started getting nervous during the sign-up process. After getting my credit card info and choosing a plan and paying for it I got page after page of offers of options and upgrades, some for features I thought I was getting in the first place. Learning that the company behind them has four brands of the same product is not surprising to me. It is consistent with their do anything to get more money approach.
Is their back-up as aggressive as their marketing?

    1. John Tucker Avatar

They do have a strong marketing department but from what I have seen the service is not as strong as the marketing. The fact that many features are optional with them but standard with other services like Backblaze and CrashPlan says a lot. Not to mention that they do not run their own data centers makes you wonder how they can compete. They use Amazon and while Amazon has great data centers they are more expensive. Drop by and leave a review after you have used the service for awhile and let us know what you think of it.

JustCloud is a scam. Avoid them like the plague. I tried it. After 2 months my backup had not finished and it quit trying. There is no tech support–just the same 4-5 standard emails that rotate in response to whatever you ask. They sound like they were written by someone whose first language is not English. If that isn’t enough, then you have to pay to get bumped up. Then they will tell you that you have violated some unspecified terms and must upgrade to a very expensive business account. And just try to cancel the subscription; just more emails telling you how wonderful it is. I contested it with my credit card company and got the full amount refunded, including the supposed $15 startup charge. Then a year later they tried to slip a renewal through without authorization, even though they had told me they had cancelled the account. I kept all the emails from them to prove it.

That is exactly what they did to me with Paypal. The kept sending emails prompting me to renew, pending the cancellation of my files. I did not renew and on the date, they charged my Paypal account. I complained to both, them and Paypal for an immediate refund. Let’s see…
Additionally, their pricing is not clear. Many features are extra.
          Very dodgy company.

And this exact page is what every person who is thinking of any of the above backup services needs to see FIRST!

I have the exact same thoughts as you but don’t have a website to post neither have seen any popular enough websites which aren’t JustCloud Affiliates.

    1. John Tucker Avatar

I am an affiliate, but I am probably one of the only honest ones doing online backup reviews out there. It does me no good to refer people to a service that sucks. People are looking for good advice and my advice is stay away from this company. That might change in the future if they change their service but right now people should look elsewhere.
