OpenDrive Announces New Refund Policy

OpenDrive New Refund Policy

While some cloud services this holiday season have been busy jacking up prices and screwing over the customers that helped spread the word about their service, OpenDrive has decided to take a different approach. Instead of making it harder for customers to get a refund OpenDrive has changed their refund policy from no refunds to a pro-rata policy.

You can get more details on the OpenDrive blog or from checking Section 8 of their terms of service. If you don’t want to read those at this very moment here is the relevant portion that has changed.

You may cancel your subscription at any time through OpenDrive Support, and for security purposes, you must confirm your wish to cancel your account before cancellation is final. In the event that you cancel the Service in a timely fashion due to Technical or other Service issues, you will receive a pro-rata refund, to the month, for the unused portion of your OpenDrive Service as of the date of your cancellation request. You must cancel your Paid account at least twenty-four (24) hours before it renews each month or year in order to avoid billing of the next month’s or year’s fees to your credit card or PayPal account. If you are paying your fees with PayPal, you must also cancel your subscription through PayPal to avoid extra fees being charged after OpenDrive has closed your account. Your cancellation will be effective immediately upon receipt of cancellation confirmation, and OpenDrive is not responsible for reimbursement of any fees incurred through late cancellations or failure to terminate your PayPal subscription.

This is great news for customers of OpenDrive. Previously OpenDrive had a no refund policy and it was the source of many comments here on Cloud Storage Buzz. Hopefully this change will improve their customer relations and encourage more people to sign up knowing that they are not locked in for a longer contract. Of course you can always sign up for the service on a month to month basis but there can be some extra savings by signing up for a year.

It will be interesting to see what else they have planned for 2014 as they continue to improve their service.

I have just attempted to close my account and get a refund, because the slow speed of the OpenDrive made it impossible to use. I tried from several computers and from several different network connections with the same result. The problem is, that OpenDrive support refuse to acknowledge the problem and provide me with a refund.

It might look good on paper, but they are not living up to it.
