SpiderOak 5.0 Release Offer

saveonspideroakIt was not long ago that SpiderOak release the beta of version 5 to the public, but they have already moved from beta to the official release of version 5.

SpiderOak version 5 brings with it a number of new features, perhaps the biggest change is the addition of the SpiderOak Hive folder. This is an automatically setup sync folder that makes it easy to get started syncing files and folders between the devices you have SpiderOak installed on. You can still sync any folder you want with SpiderOak but this new folder makes it easy to get started. In my use of the new version the Hive folder is very Dropbox like. I had no problem syncing files between devices with it.

SpiderOak also has released a new iOS app that features:

  • New user-friendly app design
  • Immediate & easy access to your SpiderOak Hive
  • Vast speed improvements
  • Updated support for iPhone 5
  • Long-press to view options and save to favorites

That being said that has not actually been my experience of the new iOS app. In fact I could not get past the login on the new iOS app. It keeps telling me that my username or password are wrong even though I know it is correct since I can login with them through the SpiderOak website and through the desktop apps. Hopefully the problems with the iOS app are resolved soon and I can give a more positive review of the new app.

in the upgrade my plan page to take advantage of the offer. There are more details available on the SpiderOak blog if you want to check it out.

Hopefully you will have better luck than I did with the iOS app.
