Cloud-based Comics Readers

If you travel a lot it can be tough to keep up with all the news issues of your favorite comic series. And as time goes on, more and more people want to digitize their comics collection. With a cloud-based comics reader app you can read all your comics while on the go, even your large back issue collection. There’s a whole host of comic readers out there and most of them have something that makes them unique.

iComix

Although only available on iOS, this is a great reading app that allows you to import comics from DropBox, Google Drive, SkyDrive, Box, and Pogoplug. The wide variety of cloud storage support is what helps this app stand out. You can even important comics from other reading apps. The visual library is also very pretty and makes looking at your comics at a glance quite easy.

Comic Zeal

This is another app only available on iOS, however this app comes with extensive organization tools for your library. The library view looks very much like Netflix and allows for tags and organizing dividers that allow you to group multiple series together. While reading it also will automatically open the next comic issue in the series for you, making the reading process smooth and seamless. Comic Zeal lists DropBox and iCloud Drive as possible cloud storage you can use with this app.

Comics Plus

Being available¬†on nearly any device you could imagine – Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, Nook, Kindle, etc – is certainly a plus for Comics Plus. Rather than using files you’ve aquired elsewhere, Comics Plus is a digital comic purchasing platform. You can buy comics from the app the day they come out from a huge list pf publishers and then access the comics on any of your devices when you log into the app.

Comixology

Comixology operates very similarly to Comics Plus in that it is a digital comic purchase and reading app. Buy comics from the browser-based store or app and read them anywhere you log in. For certain comics you can even download DRM-free PDF backups of your comics. In my opinion, Comixology operates more closely to a traditional comic shop in that there are staff-picks and regular themed sales. Comixology is also great if you still like physical copies, since many stores utilize Comixology’s Pull List site to keep track of your regular comics you keep up on.
