Symbolic Linking with Game Save Manager

The symbolic link function can be incredibly helpful when it comes to keeping track of all your game files and saves. Using GameSave Manager, not only can you use symbolic links to keep save data in cloud storage, you can even use it to move game files to another hard drive or partition. The Sync & Link tool uses symbolic links and allows you to move save and settings data to another location on your computer or even to the cloud storage of your choice. This can make it much easier to find your saves, screen shots, and settings files without having to worry about making sure the games or game platforms know where you moved them. The Steam Spreader tool works in the same way but allows you to move entire Steam or Origin game files to another hard drive or partition, potentially freeing up gigs worth of storage on your computer.

Sync & Link

Like usual, open up GameSave Manager. On the left side under the Backing Up section, click on ‘Sync & Link’. Just like with backing up the files, select which game save files you want moved. Once you’re ready, press the blue folder icon on the right hand side. This will open up another window, allowing you to choose a new home for your game save files.

You can simply choose a more convenient folder to put the files in or you can place the files in cloud storage. I definitely suggest moving the files to cloud storage, as it means that even if something happens to your computer, you’ll be able to access the completely up-to-date files again from the cloud.¬†Once you’ve decided where to move the files, GameSave Manager sets up the symbolic link where the files used to be and moves them to the new location. And that’s it! Sync & Link is super easy and a life saver.

Steam Spreader

If you need to move something larger than just the saves and user data files of your games, GameSave Manager has you covered with the Steam Spreader tool. In the bottom left of the main menu you’ll find the Steam Spreader. Once you’ve open it, you’ll want to click the ‘Add’ button on the right side to add games you want to move. You can select to move a Steam game, an Origin game, or you can choose to ‘specify the path’ – basically, choosing a non-Steam or Origin game.

?Then you select where you want to move the game file to. This can be very useful if you get a new, bigger hard drive or decide to upgrade and get an SSD. Put your most-played games on the SSD and keep the rest of your game library on a standard drive.

Once you’ve selected which games to move and where to move them, you’ll be able to double check your list before¬†committing¬†to the move. Take a look at the list of files paths to make sure it’s what you want, then click ‘Move’ at the bottom. While GameSave Manager is working, you’ll see the task log as it goes through all the files and sets up the symbolic links where they used to be. Depending on how big that game files are, this could take a bit of time. Once it’s done, you’re ready to go and get back to gaming.

GameSave Manager Conclusion

Between the quick and easy back ups, restore capabilities, and symbolic linking tools GameSave Manager has you covered for keeping on top of all your game-related files and data. Use the Sync & Link tool to move your files directly to cloud storage with no hassle. Make backups of those files for emergency use and restore them. And when it’s time to upgrade your storage, move your game files around easily. If you play PC games, GameSave Manager is a tool you definitely should utilize.
