One of the weak points that I talked about with Mozy Stash in my Mozy Stash vs Dropbox overview was the lack of better web access for files stored in Stash. Mozy just recently updated the Mozy Stash web interface and I have to say it has gotten better.
Below is a screen shot of the new web interface for Stash along with an explaination of what has been improved.
- A tab for your Stash, and a Devices tab for your backups. Now you can easily access all of the files you protect with Mozy through a single web interface.
- A breadcrumb widget shows you where you are in the folder heirarchy, allowing you to jump back up to any parent folder.
- Switch from the default list view to a gallery view, and you can see thumbnails for each photo.
- The Actions panel changes dynamically depending on what you have selected.
- You can select multiple files or folders
- Summary information about your selection shows in the footer.

My first impressions are good. I like the fact that you can now upload multiple files via the web interface easily and it is easy to browse around. I did however find it frustrating that in the gallery view I would click the gallery image and expected it to open up to view the image, but instead it would select it and not open it up. I had to click the file name below to actually open the image up to view it larger. Seemed a little backwards to me when I click the image I expected the image to open larger. Even with the image did open larger it was not a big as I would like to see. Overall though this is a good improvement on the web interface for Stash.
Does this improvement take Stash up to Dropbox web access level? Unfortunately not, Dropbox allows for streaming of audio and video via their web access and the photo gallery is a much better experience on Dropbox than Stash. It is an improvement on the Stash web access and with more improvement sure to come the Stash web access could start to rival the competition.
