Cloudberry Enables Online Backup with FTP or SFTP

Managed Cloud Backup Service under Your Brand

If you are interested in starting your own cloud backup service or reselling cloud backup there are several options available to you, but this solution from Cloudberry allows you to offer secure cloud using standard FTP and SFTP.

Now you might be wondering how a backup can be secure if it uses standard FTP, that is sent in plain text. True plain FTP is an insecure way of transferring files but because CloudBerry encrypts the data before sending it over the Internet to the FTP server and it is stored in the same encrypted form you can use plain FTP as secure storage. This makes it easier for businesses to use their existing infrastructure to provide cloud backup to their clients and employees.

You can also use other cloud storage options such as Amazon S3, Amazon Glacier, Rackspace and more, but the option to use FTP and SFTP makes it much easier for many businesses to take advantage of their existing storage.

I have not personally tried the CloudBerry managed backup service I have only used the Desktop edition of CloudBerry backup, but this company certainly does seem to know what it is doing as far as encryption and security are concerned.

Newport Beach, California – November XX, 2013

CloudBerry Lab™, a vendor of backup and management solutions for public cloud storage services announces that its’ cloud backup service for Managed Service Providers and Value Added Resellers, CloudBerry Managed Backup now allows to configure remote FTP or SFTP location as backend backup storage.

Unlike other managed backup solutions CloudBerry Managed Backup offers service providers a variety of storage options to keep customer’s backups including Amazon S3, Amazon Glacier, Windows Azure and Openstack cloud platforms. Now with the latest upgrade, backup service providers can store any amount of data on a self-hosted server with FTP/SFTP connection, the only limitation is the size of storage on a server.

Any IT service company having a configured FTP/SFTP connection on a Linux or Windows server can start a cloud backup business in a few simple steps avoiding high upfront cost and lock in to a specific vendor storage.

Quote:

Alexey Serkov, CTO at CloudBerry Lab

“Many smaller service providers already own storage accounts with their hosting companies that allows FTP/SFTP access. It is also easy to configure FTP/ SFTP access on a Windows or a Linux server to take advantage of the existing hardware and storage and start offering the managed backup service. “
