How To Install IDrive Basic

I wanted to start showing people how to install various online backup software because I know for some people installing software can be a challenge. Here is my first screencast installing the IDrive 2gb free backup software.

The video is five minutes and 19 seconds long. I speed up some portions of the video to make it shorter. For example I speed up the downloading of the software and the initial backup, but other than that the video is in real time.

You can also view this IDrive installation video on YouTube. This is my first screencast so please be kind. If you can’t see the video here are the basic steps to install the 2gb free edition of IDrive.

  1. Goto the IDrive website and scroll down to click on the sign up button for the 2gb free IDrive Basic. The link here is slightly different, but it will take you straight to the sign up form.
  2. Fill in the required information on the sign up form and click “Sign up for a new account”.
  3. Click the “Download” button to start the download of the IDrive online backup software. I save it to my desktop so it is easy to find. You can save it somewhere else if you want, just remember where.
  4. Once the download is complete you can close your web browser. Find the file you downloaded and double click it to start the installation wizard.
  5. Follow the installation wizard to complete the installation of the IDrive online backup software.
  6. When the software starts you will need to enter the username and password that you used to sign up with. You will also need to choose whether to use a default encryption key or set your own. If you set your own make sure you write it down or record it somewhere.
  7. Once that is done you should be able to edit your backup set, and choose what files you would like backed up. When you are done choosing what files to backup simply click the “Backup Now” button and your first backup will begin.

If you need more space than the 2gb free IDrive basic gives you, you will need to sign up for a larger account. If you click here you can sign up for a larger plan as well as the 2gb free Basic plan.
