Best Cloud Backup for Mac

While I do not have a Mac computer at the moment, many of my clients do run Macs and these are the services that they seem to prefer over others.

  1. Backblaze
One of the things that makes Backblaze stand out from the rest of the online cloud backup services is it just works. It seems to be made for the computer that just works. A perfect match. It might have something to do with the fact that several Backblaze have worked at Apple in the past. Whatever the reason Backblaze is the Mac online backup service that just works and is your best choice for Mac online backup

  2. DollyDrive
DollyDrive is Time Machine in the cloud. It is everything you could want in online backup if you could just move your Time Machine backup online. Being Mac only has its advantages, they make sure they work flawlessly on your Mac. The only downside is they are a little more expensive than some of the alternatives.
  3. Arq Online Backup
Arq Online Backup is a fantastic online backup client but it uses your own storage. You can use storage at Amazon (S3 and Glacier), GreenQloud, DreamHost, Google (Google Developer not Google Drive), or your own SFTP server such as Synology NAS or FreeNAS. Arq is big on encryption but will not only restore your data but also your metadata correctly. A little more hassle to setup but worth it for the added benefits of control over your storage and encryption.
  4. CrashPlan
CrashPlan is an affordable, feature rich, unlimited cloud backup service for Mac users. They have been working on a native Mac application and it should be available sometime in 2014. Until then you would need to use the Java based application, but it has improved.

  5. SOS Online Backup
SOS Online Backup is new to offering unlimited backup but they are not new to cloud backup and have a great feature set including some excellent mobile apps as well a Mac backup. With incremental backup, no file size limits and data centers around the world SOS Online Backup is worth looking at for Mac users.
