BOSTON, July 13 /PRNewswire/ — Carbonite®, a leading provider of online backup, has been selected as a winner of the Tech Awards Circle, taking Gold in the Consumer/Small Office, Home Office (SOHO) service category.  Winners were selected by an independent circle of publication reviewers/journalists from nominations based on a broad range of achievements – from product and technology innovations to talented executive leadership and engineering innovators.
Tech Awards Circle celebrates the products, services, vendors and individuals making a difference in the industry today. The winners represent a broad range of achievements, from hardware to software to services in consumer/SOHO, SMB, midrange, and enterprise markets. Gold, Silver and Bronze awards were given out in each category.
“Despite overwhelmingly strong competition, Carbonite exhibited true industry excellence to be recognized among the top of the Tech Awards Circle,” said Kevin Anderson, awards program coordinator. “Our judges were pleased at the level of submissions from all the vendors entering this year’s competition, so to be named a winner of this prestigious award is a testament to the quality and innovation unrivaled in the high tech community.”
“We are extremely honored to be recognized by the distinguished Tech Circle panel as a Gold winner in the Consumer/SOHO service category,” said Carbonite CEO and co-founder David Friend.  ”The idea of unlimited online backup for a flat $55 per year would have been unthinkable just 10 years ago.  Today it’s become one of the hottest SaaS applications on the market, and every day Carbonite backs up over 150 million new files.  The technology to make this work smoothly and reliably has turned out to be incredibly difficult.  So I want to recognize the brilliant architecture that our CTO, Jeff Flowers, came up with and the engineering team who executed on this enormously complex technology.”
Carbonite launched its online backup service for PC owners in 2006. In the last year, Carbonite enhanced its Remote File Access features beyond Web browsers to mobile accessibility through iPhone®, iPod Touch® and BlackBerry® smartphone devices. In January, the company raised approximately $20 million in a mezzanine financing round bringing total funding to approximately $67 million.
