Carbonite is the latest online backup service to announce a price increase. Starting today, April 18th, a new one year subscription will cost $59.00. A two year plan is $109.00 and the three year plan is now $139.00. The previous yearly price was $54.95.
The information I have says this is only for new subscribers and will not impact renewals from existing customers.
Carbonite is the second online backup service that has raised subscription rates so far this year. Earlier in the year Mozy raised its subscription fees and dropped their unlimited plan. That price change did not go over well with existing Mozy customers, some who saw dramatic price increases. There is no word from Carbonite about dropping there Unlimited plan so this appears to only be a modest price increase.
It does make the unlimited plans from Backblaze, IDrive and even Livedrive competitive. Backblaze offers a one year unlimited plan for $50.00. IDrive is $49.50 for a one year unlimited plan and Livedrive is $59.88 per year if you pay upfront for the year.
