While many homes have more than one computer to backup there are a growing number of homes that are running various flavors of Microsoft server operating systems. Backing up a Windows server is different than backing up a regular Windows desktop, and in fact many online backup services simply do not support Windows servers. While each service has their own reasons for not supporting Windows servers, the ones that do sometimes require you to use a business account instead of the regular home accounts. In fact it can be a challenge to find an online backup service to backup a Windows server at a reasonable cost.
If you are running a version of Windows server here are the companies I have reviewed so far and whether they support Windows server. I have not tested any of these services on a Windows server installation. I currently only have access to one Windows 2008 server and well, I don’t think my daytime boss would be to happy about me installing and removing various online backup services on it. That being said if you run a Windows server and have tested any of these services and you have something to share please leave a comment.
A few notes about the table below. If the service requires a business license to run on Windows server I have noted that. Quite a few services list Windows servers as being compatible but do not list Windows Home Server or another server version, so you will see a not listed instead of a red x. That service could be compatible with that Windows server version but I was not able to find definitive information.

It needs to be said that you will want to double and triple check that the service you are interested in will run on the version of Windows server that you are using. I did my best to find this information but there are some sites where the information is not easy to find and to by honest almost impossible. I had to tweet some of the services for an answer. Tweeting the service you want might actually be the best way to ask or use their support if you you can. Also a great way to see how responsive their support actually is.
