Backblaze has released the plans for the third generation of their backup storage pods. If you use Backblaze your data is stored on pods like this and if you have $10,717.59 you could actually build one of these 180TB storage monsters. Of course if you have enough money to build one of these you probably don’t need Backblaze to backup your data.
Here is video talking about some of the changes in the new version of the storage pod. Very interesting to see how they have improved and made them easier to build and maintain.
Backblaze currently uses over 450 Storage Pods and manages nearly 50 petabytes of data and they still manage to only charge $5.00/month for online backup. That alone is pretty amazing.
