Bitcasa Updates Web Portal

Wouldn’t you know it. I finish the review of Bitcasa last night and set it to publish today and what does Bitcasa do, go and update their web portal today. DOH! I had a chance to take a look at the new Bitcasa web portal and it is pretty nice. The new darker look is nice but besides the color the video streaming seems to play better than the last time I tried it.

I also like the better music section where you can browse your music by track, artist and album and select to play all the tracks. According to the Bitcasa blog this is “a big first step as we turn the Bitcasa web experience into a fully featured media player, file viewer, and web-based file manager” and it is coming along nicely.

You can tell the Bitcasa is coming close to leaving beta with the number of changes that they are pushing out. It will be interesting to see how their big launch goes. Certainly if you compare Bitcasa to MEGA I would say Bitcasa blows MEGA away as far as features go. The web portal alone makes Bitcasa an excellent online storage service. The big question is whether Bitcasa can get enough people to switch from services like Dropbox to them.

2013 looks like it might be the year of the cloud storage wars. With MEGA launching, Bitcasa coming out of beta, and Carbonite starting to offer a sync service as well as online backup.

Here of some screenshots of the new Bitcasa web portal in case you were wondering what it looks like and don’t have an account with them. Really, if you don’t have an account you should go grab one, even if you don’t install the desktop app, the Bitcasa Chrome browser extension is worth trying.
